It’s that time of the week again and I have a book that’s coming out fairly soon that I really want to talk about. It’s a book I’m definitely hoping to get before the end of the year but one I haven’t really heard anyone talking about. Which seems weird to me as it looks queer and awesome and maybe I’ve just missed the chat or something
Beyond the Ruby Veil by Mara Fitzgerald.
This book follows Emanuela, a privileged young lady who is about to marry her best friend Ale though they’re both gay so she can take control of the city. But her sexuality isn’t her biggest secret. She has a mark hidden on her hip that meant she should give herself over to the watercrea, a mysterious being with blood magic, when it appeared but she didn’t. On her wedding day the watercrea appears to expose her and Emanuela kills it.
Things happen then and Emanulela and Ale will have to travel through a red veil to expose the secrets behind it and to save the city at all costs.
As far as I know this is the first book in a series and it’s the debut novel for Mara Fitzgerald. I’m so damn excited for this book. The main character is being described as a chaos lesbian and well, who doesn’t want that? I’m excited to see what Emanuela and Ale are going to be like and I’m hoping he gets a good romance on the side too. All the queer please!
Plus, can I talk about this cover? It’s so damn gorgeous. I love the floral and gold mix and it’s going to be so pretty to take photos of sob. It doesn’t give me much of a clue what it’s going to be about and it’s pretty and that makes me happy.
It looks dark, fascinating and so queer and I need it like now.
Beyond the Ruby Veil comes out on November 12th 2020.
