NaNoWriMo 2020: Prep and Beginnings!

Hello, Nanowrimo is here again and this time I’m going to succeed and try to blog it too!

Last year I declared I was going to do it then failed. I was busy on my coding course, even took the 1st off as I knew I’d do nothing on the 2nd with it being my birthday. And then I went back into the office and flopped.

But with the UK being in lockdown again this November, time shouldn’t be an issue. I’m so determined to win this year and after a few weeks of indecision I decided I wanted to write something new rather than an extra 50,000 words for a current WIP.

Not my smartest idea.

I had three ideas at first – including the idea I had originally planned for last year – and after starting a few bits and pieces I eventually narrowed it down to something Wonderland inspired.

What if the Queen of Hearts ate human hearts? What if Alice falling down the rabbit hole was just her being tricked into madness? What if Alice’s grandchild wants revenge?

I’m super hyped for this idea. I’ve pulled together all the Wonderland books I own. I’ve been flicking through them and pulled out my Wonderland notebook and I’m going to use this to keep me going without it taking over all my reading. I’ve got too many unread books for so many rereads!

I did loosely try preptober but honestly I’m too much of a pantser and I only settled on an idea on the 30th October. Oops. But I’ve been listening to the How to Win Nano podcast again. It’s on Spotify and I highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out already. You’d have all last year’s episodes plus the ones from this year about writing in a pandemic.
