Can you believe it’s January already? It feels like yesterday that it was December…though that could be because I’m writing this in December, ha! But, honestly, I can’t believe the year is over with and we’re in 2021.
A new year means I want to try some new things with my blog. Though I’ve had this for a few years, this is going to be the first full year that I put total effort in all year round. I only started to really try with it last summer and the growth has been absolutely amazing. So I’m excited to keep it up and see where it goes. And that means that I need a few regular posts that you guys can look forward to.
You’ve already seen that I’m doing a mini TBR this month but I also want to talk about the books I’m looking forward to seeing released each month as well! Now, I most definitely won’t be buying all these books every month. And there may be months without a post if I can’t find anything that appeals but I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to be out there each month!
So, without further ado, here are the books I’m excited for in January 2021!
Lore – Alexandra Bracken – Jan 5th (US) or Jan 7th (UK)

From the author of The Darkest Minds series, we have a book steeped in Greek Mythology set in the modern-day. Zeus has punished the gods by making them all mortal for one week. Lore’s family was murdered and for the last seven years, she has been surviving, waiting for the one week that she could finally get her revenge. But as this week begins, Lore comes home to find Athena wounded on her doorstep and by helping her she has tied herself to the goddess and only time will tell if it was worth it.
I adore mythology and have always done a little more reading on the Greek myths than others. So I’m obviously super excited for this. It’s one of two books on this list that I’ve actually pre-ordered and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be in a couple of book boxes too. It looks like it’s going to be a dark adventure and I cannot wait to get my copy.
I will also add that if you’re in the UK, definitely worth checking out the Waterstones links unless you have to get a hardcover. It’s cheaper than Amazon for the standard edition and if you want to get a signed edition, then that’s going for the RRP. Obviously, this is if you’re not already getting a special edition from elsewhere but I definitely wanted to shout that out.

Master of One -Jaida Jones and Dani Bennett – Jan 7th (UK)

This a book that I’m pretty sure is already out in the States and is one I tried and failed to get an ARC of recently. But it’s a majorly highly anticipated book for me. It’s queer and about the fae. Which means it’ll either be a new favourite or I’ll hate it. Because of the fae aspect, not the queer. Obviously.
Rags is an excellent thief who has stolen from many nobles, guards and whoever else he could. Until he got caught by the Queensguard. The only way to avoid worse punishment is to go track down an ancient fae relic for an evil sorcerer. Only, they didn’t tell Rags that the artefact itself was actually a very handsome fae prince, oops. This book has royals, magical plots and a faery tale feel for a wonderful sounding queer story.
I’m super picky about fae books so the fact I’ve included this one on this list proves how excited I am about it. I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t pre-ordered it and the only reason I’m not doing so right now is that I need some control. And I’ve already got one pre-order coming out on that day. That’s the only reason why. This book looks so good and I want it now

Cast in Firelight – Dana Swift – Jan 19th (Worldwide)

The next book was originally supposed to have been in released in November last year but it got pushed back due to Covid. Which has meant I’ve been waiting for this book for a good while now. But that’s okay as it’s soon with us and with this book being the second pre-order on this list, I shall have it in my hands soon!
Adraa is the heir to the throne in one country and is a talented witch who wants to prove herself. Jatin is the heir in another country and has mastered all nine colours of magic, and though he’s competitive, he’s also anxious to return home. The two of them have been betrothed but after having been rivals from afar, neither of them is happy about this. They’re determined that their meeting will not end well but when the criminal underbelly rises up, they wind up meeting each other under secret identities. Not knowing who the other is, they have to work together to uncover the real threat.
Excuse me while I squee over the concept of this enemies to lovers romance. It sounds so good. I’m here for the criminal underbelly, the rivalry and the secret identities. I want to know about these colours of magic and I’m in love with that cover too. Everything about this book just sounds completely perfect and I am so hyped.

The Ex Talk – Rachel Lynn Solomon – 28th January (Worldwide)

We finish off with the only adult book on this list and the only contemporary novel. I did have a quick look through the adult fantasy and sci-fi and there was nothing there. But this is a romance novel that looks fun.
Shay has been working at the same radio station in Seattle for the last decade but recently she’s been having trouble with a new co-worker who has just finished a Masters in journalism. They clearly despise each other so when Shay suggests a new show where two exes will come on each week and give relationship advice on air? Well, their bosses decide they would be the perfect co-hosts.
Yes, another enemies to lovers book but I really do love the trope when it’s done right. This looks so fun and like it could be a lot of laughs. I’ve seen something like this as a sub-plot in other things and it tends to be so much fun. You don’t see much about radio now though it is still a big thing so I’m excited to see where this book is going to be taking it. It sounds like a lot of fun and it’s definitely one I need to check out as soon as possible.
