I know I’ve already done a kind of mid year post with stats, but the very lovely Amy @ A Fangirl’s Opinon tagged me to do this tag. And could I resist? Of course not! Since you’re here, why not pop over to her blog when you’ve finished reading this and check out her answers too!
Best Book You Have Read So Far in 2021?
Cursed Luck by Kelley Armstrong. This will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who knows me. I absolutely adore Kelley’s books, and I was completely drawn into this new series straight away. I love Greek mythology, I love Kelley, and I’m really starting to enjoy cozy mysteries. This book was a perfect blend of these three things. I’m so hyped for the next one.
Best Sequel You Have Read in 2021?
This is a hard one. I’m torn between Illusionary by Zoraida Cordova and Bone Criers Dawn by Kathryn Purdie. Both of these are fantastic YA fantasies, they’re both the end of duologies and they had romance in that I adore. I also have the Fairyloot special editions of both, ahem.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?
Oh, so many books. For my answer though is gonna be The Nichan Smile by C.J Merwild. This is an indie fantasy that I stumbled across through FaeCrate and is actually written by the artist Merwild! I unfortunately do not have the special edition, as money. But I’m really excited to see what this one is about. I’m also really wanting to get into reading more indie books!
Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2021?
I’m half-tempted to just list all the books I’m really excited for. But that would be kind of boring. Little Thieves by Margaret Owen is one I’m hyped for that I have a physical ARC of. But also Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber, Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco, Thronebreakers by Rebecca Coffindaffer and One A Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk.
Biggest Disappointment?
This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron. I’m so sad to be listing this book as it’s stunning and it does have some really good aspects. But I think this is one where the hype of the book kind of ruined it for me. I was hoping for something as amazing as Cinderella is Dead, and sadly didn’t get it.
Biggest Surprise?
The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins which is a modern Jane Eyre retelling as a thriller. I’m not big on adult thrillers nor on classics, but I kept seeing this book everywhere online. I thought I’d give a go. And I really enjoyed reading it. I listened to it in audio and I’m pretty sure I got through it quickly. I’ve been debating getting myself a physical copy for future rereads.
Favourite New Author?
Jen Deluca is the only one I can think of for certain. I read Well Met and Well Played this year and loved both of the, I’ve got the third book in that series preordered already. Her romance novels are written in such a way that they still give me chick-lit vibes, and they’re a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what she writes next!
Newest Fictional Crush?
I actually can’t think of anyone. Not even any guys from anime, manga or video games. That’s sad. Hopefully I’ll stumble across a new love before the end of the year.
Newest Favourite Character?
Probably Prince Castian from the Incendiary duology. He was such an interesting character and I loved him so much. He was one of those characters where I was like; do I fancy him or do I want to be him? If you can’t tell from my previous answer. Pretty sure it’s skewing towards I want to be him.
Book That Made You Cry?
Darius the Great Deserves Better by Adib Khorram I’m pretty sure made me sob. I know the first book did for certain last year. I’m pretty sure I teared up at this one too. There’s a reason why I avoided contemporary for a long time. It’s more likely to make me cry.
Book That Made You Happy?
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren for sure. It was so damn enjoyable. I loved every minute of it. It was the perfect sweet romance that made me smile.
Favourite Book To Movie Adaption You Saw This Year?
Honestly, don’t really have one. Shadow and Bone is okay, but I’ve yet to finish it. And I’ve not really seen any other adaptations. I’m not big on watching things.
Favourite Post You Have Written This Year?
It’s been about a year so far now since I started to taking my blogging a bit more seriously. So the last six months really have been a whirlwind and now I am producing content that I love. I’ve loved being able to talk about light novels, listing my issues with faerie books and also any of my tips and tricks posts!
Most Beautiful Book You Have Bought So Far This Year?
The total package is Ariadne by Jennifer Saint for sure. The UK edition of this book is stunning and I’m so happy I have a signed hardback. But bonus mention to the Fairyloot edition Illusionary by Zoraida Cordova. The cover isn’t anything special, but I want to frame the art under the dust jacket I love it so much.
What Books Do You Need To Read By The End Of The Year?
I just need to get through my physical TBR. It’s massive now and it’s a little ridiculous. But I really want to get through the indie books I’ve bought like The Nichan Smile, Cute Mutants 2 and Awakening Shadows.
Tagging
Ahhh that was fun! I won’t tag too many people as I don’t know who has the time or the energy!
But I’d love to see Imogen @ Imogen’s Typewriter and Bertie @ Luminosity Library‘s answers!
